In my artwork I felt natural fibers and incorporate other materials such as glass, threads, plastics and objects found in nature. As I convert wool into sculpture the transformation, both in form and texture, of individual fibers into a strong yet velvety piece of art is an extraordinary process. I am forced to create in a larger format as the felting process entwines and entangles my creation into something more compact that I have never seen before, altogether new. Each time I find this process magical. I like to work in off-white or in saturated colors that give some vibration to the eye. I produce organic structures to create a tactile and even visceral visual experience. I’m influenced by nature and the human body. I always come back to is the human face. I'm constantly surprised by the subtile details that can make a portrait come to life, the imperfections are the true beauty in real life as well as art. I believe the power of human connection is through the face.
My whole life I have always been drawn to art and and the study of beautiful things. I was a graphic designer for 20 years, where I created the Official Election Mail logo for the United States Postal Service and also worked for Young and Rubicam creating brand identities and collateral pieces. After quitting my design job and taking on the career of a lifetime, raising my three small children, I pursued my passion of making art during my quiet moments. Originally I am from North Carolina, I currently resides is Southern California with my family and my funny bunny, Bemelman.
